Automobile Accident Injuries

1. All auto accident injuries in our office are treated under Pennsylvania Law Act 6 guidelines.
2. If there are injuries call 911.
3. If there are no immediately apparent injuries, always exchange information with the other driver at the time of the accident (insurance information, drivers' license numbers and license plate information); no exceptions to this rule.
4. All accidents should be immediately reported to your insurance company regardless of bodily injury or damage to your vehicle (there is a 2 year statute of limitation- if you develop any symptom within 2 years and it is related to the auto accident, you will be medically covered under your automobile insurance).
5. If you start to develop symptoms related to the accident:
1. Call your insurance company, (you will be given a claim number-write it down and give it to all facilities where you are treated).
2. You will also be given a claim representative's name and phone number. This is a different person than your insurance agent and will be the person to contact if you have questions.
6. You can do one or all of the following:
1. Go to the emergency room of any hospital.
2. Call your family M.D.
3. Call the We Care Chiropractic Center @ (412) 795-2900. We have "24 hour emergency care" for this reason.
7. The auto insurance company will send you an application for medical benefits. This is a form that you have to fill out, not your physician. This has to be completed to open the medical claim. This document tells the insurance company about your complaints and how they relate to the motor vehicle accident.
8. The application for medical benefits allows for the benefits or charges to be paid to the facilities that treated you. The application for medical benefits must be filled out or your medical expenses will not be paid.
9. All treatment as it relates to the auto accident will be covered 100% and there is never a co-pay that applies regardless of which health facility you decide to go to for treatment. Follow-up care is also covered by your auto insurance.
10. Everyone has at least $5000.00 minimum coverage for medical expenses. You can check the medical coverage on your policy or call your claim representative to find out the limits.
11. All treatment as it relates to an auto accident is paid for by your own auto insurance company. Examples are as follows: The rules that apply are under Pennsylvania's Act 6 law, which went into law in 1990:
1. You are the driver of a vehicle that gets hit by another vehicle. Your medical expenses are paid by your insurance company and the damage to the vehicle is paid for by the insurance company of the people that hit you.
2. You are a passenger in your own vehicle that gets hit by another vehicle. Your medical expenses are paid by your insurance company and the damage to the vehicle is paid for by the insurance company of the vehicle that hit you.
3. You are a passenger in someone else's vehicle that gets hit by another vehicle. Your medical expenses are paid by your own insurance company and the damage to the vehicle is paid for by the insurance company of the vehicle that hit the vehicle you were in.
4. You are the driver and all passengers in your car are injured.
1. Each passenger's own auto insurance company pays for their medical expenses.
2. If the passenger does not have auto insurance and a person they live with has auto insurance, then that insurance company pays the medical expenses.
3. If the passenger lives with you and they do not have coverage, then your coverage pays their medical expenses.
4. If the passenger lives with someone else and they do not have auto insurance, then your insurance covers their medical expenses.

12. If medical coverage on your automobile insurance is exhausted or exhausts while you are still being treated:
1. All claims are then sent to your health insurance company.
2. If no health insurance exists, then arrangements have to be made with the physicians you are seeing.
